Buying a Car is Not like Buying a House Here are 5 Reasons Why.

I'm on the hunt for a new vehicle and I thought hmmm what are the differences and similarities between the process in buying a house and buying a car...

1.  When car shopping or house shopping you can start both of your searches online. The great thing about shopping online is you quickly find out what you can't afford (Okay maybe that's not so great). You start clicking those options:

                   CAR                                                               HOUSE
  1. Moon Roof                                                                  1.   Sky lights
  2. Leather Seats                                                               2.   Wood Floors
  3. Navigation System                                                      3.   New HVAC
Okay you get the picture, once you start clicking away the things that you like the higher the price gets.

2.  The Difference Supply.  When you find a vehicle model you like and can afford there are usually multiple vehicles available that you can select from.   When you find a house that you like you better grab it, most homes are unique (even track, development homes can have differences in upgrades, floor plans, color schemes, condition and location.)

3.  Another Difference The Sales Agent.  Buying a home you really should stick with one agent. This gives you your greatest advantage.  Real Estate Sales Agent isn't trying to steer you in one particular home, they can show you every home even ones listed with other agencies.  This gives a Buyer an open non-biased evaluation on all homes. A car sales agent can only show you the cars under their umbrella and cannot give you a true evaluation on other companies models. Bottom line the car sales agent is working for the car company and a Real Estate Sales Agent is working for the Buyer.

4.  Different Negotiations Techniques.  Sticker price on a car or on a home may or may not be the price a person pays for the home.  Depending on condition, demand and agents skills a home may be purchased for higher or lower than the sticker price. There is also many phases to the negotiations there is the first stage to get an offer accepted then more times than not there is the negotiation after inspections and appraisal.   Purchasing a car the sticker price is usually negotiated down depending on the clients credit score, financing, and negotiation skills.

5. So basically, I've concluded that really the only similarity is online searching enabling Buyers to get a more realistic idea on what they'd have to spend to get the vehicle or home of the dreams. Everything else is very different. My suggestion would be that a new job is created, that of The Car Negotiator.  This Negotiator  could go to different dealerships with you give you non-biased information on all the models you are interested in.  Even selecting models for you that suit your needs. This Car Negotiator would do all the searching, listen to your needs, wants and stick within your budget no matter how long it would take...and you wouldn't have to pay him...the Car Dealership would!!!   Wow now wouldn't that be something.
